Cytotec Warnings

Cytotec is known to sometimes cause spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. This medicine is a category X FDA pregnancy medicine. Therefore, a treatment with Cytotec during pregnancy might have harmful effects on a growing fetus. If you are pregnant, or if you think that you might become pregnant any time soon you should not start taking this medicine without first consulting it with your personal healthcare provider.

Although Cytotec’s main ingredients are not known to pass into the patient’s breast milk, you should talk to your personal doctor before you start taking this medicine if you are currently breast feeding an infant. Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•chest pain
•dehydration
•lightheadedness or fainting spells
•severe diarrhea
•sudden shortness of breath
•unusual vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain or cramping (females)

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
•diarrhea (mild)
•dizziness
•headache
•menstrual irregularity, spotting, or cramps
•nausea
•stomach upset or cramps

What should I watch for while taking misoprostol?
It can take several days of therapy with misoprostol before your stomach pains improve. Check with your prescriber or health care professional if your condition does not improve, or if it gets worse. You can take antacids for the occasional relief of pain unless your prescriber or health care professional tells you otherwise.

If you are female, You should not use this drug to prevent stomach ulcers if you are pregnant. Females should avoid pregnancy while taking this medication and for at least one month (one full menstrual cycle) after discontinuing this medication. Misoprostol can cause contractions of the uterus that may cause abortion or the medication may harm an unborn baby. You should use a reliable form of birth control while taking misoprostol; talk to your health care provider about birth control options. If you become pregnant, think you are pregnant, or want to become pregnant during misoprostol treatment, stop taking this drug immediately and contact your health care provider for advice.
